Mike Bentien is a Certified Lighting Specialist by the American Lighting Institute. He completed certification programs in landscape lighting, blueprints & advanced lighting design, All About Lighting Seminar and numerous Illuminating Engineering Society Seminars. Mike has also attended training seminars by Thorn Lighting, Juno Lighting Group, Kichler Lighting, Quoziel Lighting, Schonbek Lighting among others. Mike started in the lighting business in 1982, working for MacLean & Son Electric / Home Lighting Centre in Prince Edward Island. In 1984, Mike moved to Kelowna, becoming showroom manager for Custom Décor Lighting. Ten years later, in 1998, Mike moved to Calgary working with Cartwright Lighting, where he also became showroom manager.
He did lighting training in Boston, Massachusetts, Hartford Connecticut, Springfield Massachusetts, Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia.
